Dream11 CEO Harsh Jain views after Online Gaming Bill hit revenues.
Dream11, India’s largest fantasy sports platform, was founded in 2008 by Harsh Jain and Bhavit Sheth. It allows users to create virtual teams in cricket, football, and other sports to win points based on real matches. With over 260 million users, it revolutionized online sports engagement in India.
The Dream11 platform offers real-money online gaming in India. Due to this, many people are facing financial trouble. But recently, it was banned according to the Online Gaming Bill passed by the Government of India in Parliament. All the money gaming services are suspended, as per the new Bill.
We are not interested in doing any layoffs. All the talent here is safe.
Harsh Jain
After the passing of the Online Gaming Bill, 95% of Dream11’s revenues had disappeared overnight, and 100% of its profits. He has reassured that the company will maintain enough cash reserves for the coming years. In the financial year 2023, the company’s revenue was ₹6384.49 crore, and in the year 2024, it was ₹3841 crore.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially ended its deal with Dream11. This action is taken after the Government has passed the Online Gaming Bill. Also, for the upcoming Asia Cup, the BCCI has decided that Dream11 will not be a sponsor.
Dream Sports intends to make a quick change, re-deploying about 500 engineers throughout its network, which includes FanCode, DreamSetGo, Dream Game Studios, and the fintech company Dream Money. Additionally, the business is researching new AI-powered products focused on analytics, fan interaction, sports content, commerce, etc.
According to the information provided on Google Play Store, Dream11 will provide a daily gold purchase service with fixed deposits starting at ₹1,000 and daily prices starting at ₹10.
The company has millions of users and can pursue new creative ideas. While money gaming is banned, the app will continue to have skill-based games. With its global expansion, the company still wants to target India first.
