In an interview, while talking about the cast of the film, Imtiaz Ali shared how he was initially reluctant to cast Diljit in his film. He said, “I thought he might not be able to do it, etc. So I didn’t approach him in the beginning, but it’s a little later than I did, the moment I spoke to him, it was just like a different chapter.”
A biopic, the upcoming film revolves around the life of Amar Chamkila. It explains the folk singer’s humble beginnings and how he managed to become one of the legendary singers of the country. While struggling to find recognition for himself, Amar Singh found himself a soulmate, Amarjot Kaur. The film depicted his passion and dedication to showcase his art, which led him to become one of the highest record-selling artists in Punjab. However, along with success and fame, Amar Singh Chamkila attracted criticism, which eventually led to the assassination of his band, wife, and himself.
