Arvind Krishna attended St. Joseph’s Academy in Dehradun and Stanes Anglo Indian Secondary School in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, for his education. Arvind was accepted to the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, for his higher studies, and in 1985 he graduated with a BTech in electrical engineering. In order to pursue his Ph.D. in electrical engineering at the University of Illinois, he later relocated to the United States.

Arvind Joined IBM in 1990. He was posted at Thomas J Watson Research Centre. There he continued for 18 years till 2009. Then he became the General Manager of Information Management Software and System and Technology Group, and he served till 2012. Arvind Krishna became General Manager of the Development and Manufacturing, Systems and Technology Group from January 2013 till December 2014.
In January 2015, Arvind Krishna became Senior Vice President, Hybrid Cloud, and Director of IBM Research. In January 2019, he became the Senior Vice President of IBM’s Cloud and Cognitive Software division.
He played a major role in acquiring Red Hat in July 2019 for $34 Billion. Arvind Krishna was appointed CEO in January 2020. He also co-authored dozens of patents as he is also a researcher and had worked in IBM’s research lab for a long period.
