Avatar 2 Budget And Box Office Collection, Beats Jurassic World Dominion

Avatar 2 has been the fastest movie to reach the $1 billion box office mark this year after collecting over $1 billion worldwide in just 14 days. Only three movies that were released in 2022 have succeeded in breaking the $1 billion barrier. Tom Cruise led Top Gun: Maverick took 31 days, while Chris Pratt starrer Jurassic World Dominion took over four months.

In 2019, nine films grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. Avatar 2 is the quickest film to reach the milestone since 2021. Spiderman: No Way Home reached this milestone in just 12 days in 2021. Only six films in history have grossed more than $1 billion in their first two weeks of release.

James Cameron’s long-awaited sequel released worldwide on December 16th, 2022. The film collected $134 million in North America and $435 million globally in its first week. Avatar 2 has so far collected $317.1 million in North America and $712.7 million globally, summing to $712.7 million.

Avatar 2 eclipsed Jurassic World Dominion as the year’s second-highest-grossing film and the third-highest of the epidemic era. The film was made on a $350 million budget, which does not include at least $100 million in marketing expenses. According to analysts, the profitability threshold of the movie is closer to $1.5 billion. Avatar 2 has a long road ahead of it, not just because of its large budget, but also because it serves as the foundation for three planned sequels.

The first Avatar movie was released in 2009 and remains the highest-earning film in history, grossing $2.97 billion globally. The sequel, released 13 years later, appears to be failing to match the original standard since the global box office has not yet recovered from the pandemic.
