BJP’s Nayab Singh Saini To Replace Manohar Lal Khattar As Haryana’s CM

The Bhartiya Janata Party’s Nayab Singh Saini is set to replace Manohar Lal Khattar as the new chief minister of Haryana amid the ongoing political crisis in the state over the seat-sharing dispute. The OBC leader, Nayab Singh, will take the oath at 5 pm today.

Manohar Lal Khattar resigned on Tuesday from the post of Chief Minister of Haryana. This came after cracks appeared in the coalition of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) in the state ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections.

The spokesperson for the Haryana government stated that Manohar Lal Khattar has handed over the resignation letter along with his cabinet to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya.

Following the failure of the seat-sharing agreement in the state for the Lok Sabha elections, the ties between the BJP and the Chautala-led JJP had worsened. In the 2019 elections, the BJP won all 10 Lok Sabha seats.

Who is Nayab Singh Saini?

Nayab Singh Saini, MP from Kurukshetra and a member of the other backward classes (OBC) community, has held the role of Haryana BJP state president since October last year.

Saini began his political journey with the BJP in 1996. He started working within the organisational structure of the BJP, along with the state general secretary, until 2000. His ascent within the party persisted when, in 2002, he accepted the position of district general secretary of the BJP Youth Wing in Ambala. In 2005, he was elected district president.

Over the years, his dedication to the party earned him a number of important positions. Prior to being named district president of the Ambala BJP in 2012, he served as the state general secretary of the BJP Kisan Morcha in Haryana in 2009.
