The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation announced on Tuesday that some of the metro station gates will remain closed until further notice due to the Aam Aadmi Party’s call to ‘gherao’ at Prime Minister Modi’s residence against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Delhi police have increased security at PM Modi‘s residence. It has also imposed section 144 of the CrPC around the residence. In various parts of the capital city, the police have barricaded the area for security concerns.
A Delhi Traffic Police official said the ongoing protest may disrupt traffic in parts of New Delhi and Central Delhi. A Delhi Police officer told PTI, “We have made robust security arrangements.” We have installed layers of security to maintain law and order in the area. Authorities have imposed Section 144 (CrPC) near the prime minister’s residence and will not allow any protests.
According to the DMRC, Lok Kalyan Marg Metro Station, Gate No. 3 of Patel Chowk Metro Station, and Gate No. 5 of the Central Secretariat will remain shut until further notice amid the ongoing protest and security concerns.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Devesh Kumar Mahla, stated, “We did not grant the party permission to conduct the protest.” There will be no restrictions on boarding and deboarding at the metro stations, and 50 patrolling vehicles will be present in the city given the protest.
The Enforcement Directorate detained Arvind Kejriwal on March 21 in connection with the liquor policy case. Due to the arrest of the AAP leader, party members launched campaigns and protests against the PM Modi-led central government and probe agencies, including the CBI and Enforcement Directorate.
The Bhartiya Janata Party has also asked for the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal from the post of Delhi Chief Minister.
