Netflix movie Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery star Kate Hudson said that she sees more nepotism in other industries than in Hollywood. While expressing her thoughts on Nepotism in Hollywood she said, “I don’t care where you come from, or what your relationship to the business is, if you work hard and you kill it, it doesn’t matter.”
The term ‘Nepo Baby’ has been a hot topic of conversation since New York Magazine declared 2022 as “The Year of the Nepo Baby”. The article featured on Vulture called out the children of musicians, actors, producers, and other industry insiders who have succeeded under their parent’s influence.
Kate Hudson, daughter of musician Bill Hudson and actress Goldie Hawn, stepdaughter of Kurt Russell, spoke about nepotism and said some directors don’t hire her because of her famous parents.
“I look at my kids, and we’re a storytelling family. It’s definitely in our blood,” she continued, “People can call it whatever they want, but it’s not going to change it. I think there are other industries where it’s [more common]. Maybe modeling? I see it in [other] business way more than I see it in Hollywood.”
Kate Hudson revealed that she avoided talking about her mother and step-father in the initial years of her acting career. Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have been in a relationship since Kate was 3 years old.
Hudson believes that having a Hollywood ancestry means additional strain. Sometimes I’ve been in business meetings where I’m like, wait, whose child is this? Like, this person knows nothing! I don’t care where you come from, or what your relationship to the business is – if you work hard, and you kill it, it doesn’t matter,” she added.
