If you have ever played PC role-playing games in the previous century, then there is good news and a good chance for you. The good chance is that you have fond memories of SSI’s Dungeons and Dragons “Gold Box” titles and now you are soon going to have an easy way to play many of them beyond sites like GOG. Yes, you are hearing that right, SNEG is bringing multiple Gold Box Classics collections only to steam on March 29th, 2022. Most of them are themed after their D and D franchise and they are also going to include some special game launcher, “enhanced” DOSBox emulator support. Therefore, the utilities are going to help you transfer parties, map dungeons, and also manage your RPGs.
Probing further, there are a total of three Forgotten Realms collections that will be including one for the Eye of the Beholder series, another for the Pool of Radiance and Savage Frontier titles. However, the third one is for Dungeon Hack and Menzoberranzan. All the DragonLance fans will find a bundle for the Krynn trilogy, while Dark Sun and Ravenloft will be having their own packs of everything. Hence, The Genie’s Curse and D&D Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator are something that will be available individually.
However, this might not satisfy you if you’re a completist. This is because the catalog is not include DragonStrike, Spelljammer, and other games. These are not the remasters so they’ll be just as low-resolution as you remember. Get ready if you are interested in playing such games out.
