Next month, the Los Angeles Rams will meet the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl 2022. The Rams won the NFC Championship by a score of 20-17 over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.
Travin Howard made a game-winning interception with 1:09 remaining in the game, and the Rams rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to claim a position in Super Bowl LVI.
The Rams will be able to play at home in the game, which is scheduled for Sunday, February 13 at Stan Kroenke’s multibillion-dollar SoFi Stadium, which opened in September.
The Rams are making their sixth appearance in the Super Bowl.
The first time came in 1980, when they were defeated by Pittsburgh in a game. The team’s most recent participation was in 2019, when they were defeated by New England. The club did, however, go to the Super Bowl twice while situated in St. Louis from 1995 to 2015, winning in 2000 against Tennessee and losing in 2002 to New England.
The Rams are the second team in two seasons to win a Super Bowl without playing at their home stadium, following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who broke the trend last year.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Bengals defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game, which broadcast on CBS.
After leading a dramatic second-half rally, Bengals quarterback Jo Burrow held his calm and made a 31-yard field goal with 9:22 left in overtime. With a 27-24 victory over the Chiefs, they advanced the Bengals to the NFL’s championship game for the first time in 33 years.
The Cincinnati Bengals came back from an 18-point hole to tie the AFC title game record.
For biggest comeback and deny the Chiefs a third straight Super Bowl participation. They won in 202, defeating the San Francisco 49ers 31-20, but fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a blowout game last year, losing 31-9.
The Bengals will be making their third Super Bowl appearance, having lost both of their previous visits to the big game against San Francisco. They last appeared in the Super Bowl in 1989, losing 20-16 to San Francisco. They were also defeated by a score of 26-21 in their first outing, in 1982.
