PM Modi Inaugurates India’s First Underwater Metro In Kolkata

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates and lays the foundation stones for several connectivity projects in West Bengal’s Kolkata on Wednesday, with a total worth of Rs 15,400 crores. Later in the day, he also dedicated and laid the foundation stones for multiple development initiatives worth Rs 12,800 crore in Bihar’s Bettiah.

The underwater service is part of the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata’s Metro’s East-West Corridor, which covers a distance of 16.6 km under the Hooghly River. In addition to the underwater metro, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Metro section and the Taratala-Majerhat Metro section, which are part of the Joka-Esplanade line.

The inaugural function not only takes place in Kolkata but across the country. PM Modi will unveil several other important national projects.

These include the following: the Agra Metro’s route from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar; the Pune Metro’s stretch from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi; the Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension from SN Junction Metro station to Tripunithura Metro station; and the Duhai-Modinagar (North) portion of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor.

All of these projects aim to greatly reduce traffic on the roads and give the general public smooth, effective, and comfortable connectivity. For example, the recently opened Agra Metro segment will improve accessibility to the city’s historical and tourism destinations, and the RRTS corridor will boost economic activity in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The government’s commitment to creating effective and sustainable transportation networks throughout India is demonstrated by this extensive effort, which aims to increase connectivity, transform the way people travel to different places, and lessen its impact on the environment while also promoting economic growth.
