Rahul Gandhi To Contest Lok Sabha Polls From Amethi

A senior Congress leader from Uttar Pradesh confirmed that the party leader, Rahul Gandhi, will contest the Lok Sabha polls from Amethi. Rahul Gandhi has represented the constituency several times since 2002.  Pradeep Singhal, the district’s Congress President, returned from a meeting in Delhi and stated that the party will field Mr. Gandhi as its candidate from Amethi and will announce his name soon. However, there is no word from the party’s central leadership on the matter. As a result, while Singhal’s announcement carries weight locally, the official confirmation from the central leadership is still pending as the party’s Central Election Committee meeting is yet to take place.
