Overview of Janaawar

It begins with Sub-Inspector Hemant Kumar getting his leave cancelled, while two critical cases are dropped on his desk: the disappearance of MLA Jagtap’s brother, Sarju, and a gold theft. Things take a dark turn when the murder’s headless body is found, and the police are left with a desperate search to locate not only the missing head but the real killer.

As Hemant and his colleagues investigate suspects and force confessions, the trail of evidence keeps leading to those within their circle. The title Janaawar (beast) has several layers of meaning: the physical brutality of the killing; the social dehumanisation of marginalised groups; and the moral dilemma of what happens to an ordinary man when pushed beyond his limits.
