Indian industrial tycoon and philanthropist started his career in 1967 as an engineer at Walchand Group’s Cooper Engineering, Pune. A few years later, he left his job and started MicroComp under the brand ‘Telvista’ in partnership with Ajai Chowdhry and other colleagues. In 1976 they founded HCL Tech together. Nadar attended multiple schools for his studies. He went to Town Higher Secondary School in Kumbakonam, then Elango Corporation Higher Secondary School in Madurai. For high school, he joined St. Joseph Boys Higher Secondary School in Trichy. Shiv Nadar got his pre-university degree from The American College, Madurai, and an electrical and electronics engineering degree from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore.

His friends and colleagues call him ‘Magus’, which means wizard in ancient Persian. He is the founder and current chairman of the Shiv Nadar Foundation. In the name of his father Sivasubramaniya Nadar, in 1996 he founded SSN College of Engineering in Chennai.
