He was born in Delhi and grew up in a Tamil family. He has done his schooling at Bangalore Military School. S. Jaishankar has completed his PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University. S. Jaishankar explained India’s decision not to send back the Iranian warship IRIS Lavan that had taken refuge in Kochi port despite the mounting tension between the US and Iran. During an occasion, he disclosed that Iran had requested urgent docking on February 28, 2026, following technical problems after the MILAN naval exercises. Also, just after a US submarine had sunk sister ship IRIS Dena off Sri Lanka, and Jaishankar said the ships were desirous of entering our port to seek refuge, a sign of balanced diplomacy on the part of India.
