Vaishnavi Sharma recently came into the spotlight as an Indian International cricketer. She has been acclaimed as the leading wicket-taker at the 2025 U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Vaishnavi made her debut in December 2025 against Sri Lanka. Her hard work and skills made her the first cricketer from the Chambal region to represent India at such a senior level.

Early Life and Career

She was born on 18 December 2005 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. Her father, Narendra Sharma, works as a government employee. Her elder brother is known to be an engineer. At the age of five, she started her training for a cricket career. 

In the 2025 T20 World Cup U19, Vaishnavi Sharma took the most wickets. She was also the first Indian bowler to have a hat-trick at the tournament. She had her T20I debut in the first game of the series. And got a debut cap from the team captain, Harmanpreet.

Harmanpreet Kaur was born on March 8, 1989, in Punjab. She is known as a captain of the women’s Indian cricket team and a very energetic all-rounder player. Kaur has also won the women’s Asia Cup and the Asian Games gold in 2022. Other achievements, including the first century in WT20I in India with more than 8000 international runs.

In one of her interview she said:

“When I was four years old, my journey in sports began. As you all know, my father is an astrologer. He looked at my horoscope and said that I should either go into sports or into the medical field. After that, it was a question of where my own interest was. After some time, he understood that my interest was in sports. When I was seven, I started playing more seriously, like going for evening practice sessions. And when I was 11-12 years old, I played my first Under-16 match for Madhya Pradesh. It wasn’t under the BCCI then, but that’s where my journey really started.”

Controversy

She was found in one of the news reports in which BCCI announced a 15-member women’s team of India to play a one-off test against Australia. It is set to be held at the Perth Stadium from March 6 to 9, 2026. The team has Harmanpreet Kaur as team leader and Smriti Mandhana as team vice captain. Also, G Kamalini was replaced by Uma Chetry because of her shoulder injury. 

Smriti Mandhana, the vice captain of the team, was born in Mumbai on 18 July 1996. She is one of the star female cricketers of India. She has more than a thousand international runs and around 17 centuries. Her awards include 4 ICC awards, Arjuna Award (2019), and Leading Cricketer of Wisden (2024).
