In 1990, his mother left Kashmir due to the conflict; the family was originally from Peshawar, British India. Ramanand Sagar, a renowned filmmaker, was his relative from his father’s side and Vidhu’s half-brother. Later, Vinod also chose films as his career. After completing his Bachelor of Arts from Sir Parashurambhau College, Pune, he pursued a film course from the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune.
