The Enforcement Directorate has raided BRS Leader K Kavitha’s House in Hyderabad over the Delhi liquor policy case. This came after the leader skipped two summonses issued to her by the probe agency.
ED questioned K Kavitha in March 2023 in connection with the case. Authorities accused her of being in touch with Vijay Nair, the communication head of AAP. Who engaged with businessmen from the liquor industry and politicians during the formulation and execution of policies.
During her last interrogation, officials showed her the statements of her former chartered accountant. Butchibabu Gorantla and Arun Ramchandra Pillai, who had represented her in several meetings with Nair and others. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took Butchibabu into custody in February, and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Pillai in March.
“There was a political arrangement between K Kavitha and the chief minister of Delhi (Arvind Kejriwal) and (former) deputy chief minister (Manish Sisodia) of Delhi,” Butchibabu said in a statement recorded before the ED investigators in February 2023. K Kavitha also met Vijay Nair throughout the procedure on March 19–20, 2021.
Butchibabu told the ED that Vijay Nair attempted to impress K Kavitha with his policy-making abilities. On behalf of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and (then) Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Vijay Nair was acting. The parties agreed that the AAP would receive some funding in return for any favours they could do for K Kavitha in the policy and the Delhi liquor sector.
Investigators claim that Pillai served as Kavitha’s unapproved or illegal investment representative. He purportedly formed cartels and paid bribes on behalf of the South Group.
K Chandrashekar Rao, the former Chief Minister of Bharat Rashtra Samithi, is the father of Kavitha.
