Calcutta HC Judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay Quits for Politics

Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay resigns to join the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party). He faced criticism from the ruling party of Bengal, the Trinamool Congress, for his observations and judgments.

According to PTI, Gangopadhyay directly sent his resignation to Droupadi Murmu, the President of India. Under Article 217(1)(a) of the Constitution, the resignation came into effect immediately.

I will join the BJP…most probably on March 7. It is the only national party that is fighting against the Trinamool Congress’s (TMC’s) corruption.

He told the media on Sunday, “My soul tells me that my tenure as a judge is over, and it is time to enter a bigger sphere and serve people. I will put in my papers on Tuesday.”  He stated that he feels it is time for him to enter a bigger platform in order to serve people.

He attacked the ruling party by saying, “Trinamool is not a political party but Trinamool Yatra Party…I think Trinamool is a group of miscreants. I do not consider Trinamool a political party.” Abhijit does not consider the Trinamool Congress a political party, but a group of criminals.

Abhijit Gangopadhyay asserted to the media that he is being forced to take this step by the ruling party. Their statements and taunts, which are insulting, have inspired him to resign. The spokesperson of the Trinamool Congress has attacked the former judge with unparliamentary words. Abhijit thinks that they have a problem with their education.

The former judge stirred several controversies by ignoring orders for larger benches, giving TV interviews, directing the Supreme Court registry, and more. His tenure witnessed various dramatic moments, which included boycotts and charges being traded against senior colleagues and lawyers.
