Konidela Siva Sankara Vara Prasad aka Chiranjeevi was born on 22 August 1955 in the village of Mogalthur, West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, India. His father was a constable(retired). Due to the frequent transfer of his father, Chiranjeevi spent his childhood in his village with his grandparents.

He attended various schools in Nidadavolu, Gurazala, Bapatla, Ponnur, Mangalagiri, and Mogalthur. Chiranjeevi had taken part in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi in the early 1970s as an NCC cadet.

He completed his Degree in Commerce from Sri Y N College at Narsapur. Due to his interest in acting from his childhood, Chiranjeevi moved to Chennai and enrolled in the Madras Film Institute in 1976.
