Ekta Kapoor is an Indian television producer, film producer, and director who works for Hindi films and soap operas. In 2020, she was honored with Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award.
Ekta Kapoor was born on 7 June 1975 (age 49 years; as of 2025) in Bombay, Maharashtra, India. For her schooling, Ekta attended Bombay Scottish School, Mahim. Soon after completing her higher secondary education, she joined Mithibai College where she obtained a degree in commerce. Born in an acting family, Ekta was exposed to Bollywood from a young age.
Ekta Kapoor belongs to a Punjabi Khatri family in Amritsar, Punjab.
Born and brought up in a wealthy family, Kapoor had a privileged childhood. Her father, Jeetendra, is a famous Indian actor. Meanwhile, her mother, Shobha, is an Indian television, film, and web series producer.
Her brother, Tusshar Kapoor, is also an actor.
Ekta Kapoor is unmarried. Nevertheless, she has a son named Ravie Kapoor, who was born on 27 January 2019 by surrogacy.

However, in the year 2022, Ekta Kapoor shared an Instagram story to wish actor Chunky Pandey on his birthday. In the IG story, she revealed her unrequited love for him. In her message, she confessed that she blushed at his name in the past, and if that person had responded, she would have been a Bollywood wife today.

Initially, she interned with Kailash Surendranath, who is an advertisement and feature filmmaker. Soon after, she ventured into production with her father’s finances; nevertheless, her initial pilot projects were rejected.
In 1995, she made her production debut with the television show, Mano Ya Na Mano. In the same year, her sitcom, Hum Paanch, was her first success. Later, in the 2000s, Ekta Kapoor produced daily soaps with the initial “K”,i.e. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kabhi Sautan Kabhi Saheli, Kaahi Kisi Roz, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, and Kasamh Se. With more than 200 TV shows in her Kitty, some of her famous TV shows include Pyaar Ki Ye Ek Kahaani (2010), Pavitra Rishta (2009), Bade Acche Lagte Hai (2011), Pavitra Bandhan (2013), Kundali Bhagya (2017), Yeh Hai Chahatein (2019), and Barsatein-Mausam Pyaar Ka (2023), Ek Junoon (2024) to her recent TV productions list.
Besides TV shows, Ekta Kapoor’s production house, Balaji Telefilms has produced many Hindi films. In 2001, she made her film debut with the Hindi language film Kyo Kii…Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta (2001). Subsequently, she has produced many Hindi-language films including Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007), Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010), Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum (2012), Udta Punjab (2016), Half Girlfriend (2017), and Dream Girl (2019). Meanwhile, in recent years, Ekta Kapoor has produced films like Goodbye (2022), Freddy (2022), Kathal (2023), and Dream Girl 2 (2023).
