Ratched was commissioned as a two-season series, but it looks like Ratched Season 2 will never happen. This was the third major show crafted by Ryan Murphy released on Netflix, but it’s been over two years, and we know nothing about the show’s future. Is Ratched Season 2 Coming Or Canceled?
Ratched is a prequel to the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, published in 1962 and adapted into a film of the same name in 1975. However, the series is a complete package in itself, and one does not need to have seen the original film to enjoy it. The American horror series received a mixed critical reception, with RottenTomatoes giving it an average score of 62%. The series was nominated for 4 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Netflix reported that 48 million households streamed Ratched within 28 days of its release, making it the most-watched series during its debut month in 2020. In its first month, Ratched became the second most-watched debut in Netflix history, trailing only The Witcher, which reached 76 million households. The show’s popularity reinforces its return for season 2, but when? Could the show’s high production cost—estimated at $10–$15 million per episode—be preventing Season 2 from moving forward?

Eight more episodes are expected to come with the second season. In September 2017, Netflix announced a two-season deal for Ratched. The now non-functional Fox 21 Television Studios delivered the show to Netflix.
The series managed to score a place in the most-viewed Netflix Originals to date. 48 million accounts watched the show in the first 4 weeks of its release. The show was watched for 972 million minutes in the United States alone. For a total of 39 days in the UK and 28 days in the US, the show retained its position in the top 10 charts.
The current production status of Ratched for the other seasons is not known. It’s been over two years and we still have no clue whether the series is already under production or it is going to be in a short time. The pandemic era is the main culprit of production delays. Indeed, Sarah Paulson stated shortly after Season 1’s release that filming wouldn’t resume until late 2021. Scheduling issues have since plagued the series.
