Salakaar (2025) Review: Cast, Story, and Audience’s Reaction

When I first saw the trailer for Salakaar in late July, I got a little goosebumps. It had that serious look with dark frames, intense background music, and glimpses of spies running secret missions. I enjoy watching thrillers, so I was excited to check out Salakaar. The trailer reminded me a little of The Family Man.

Salakaar came out today, 8 August 2025, on JioHotstar. It is directed by Faruk Kabir, who also made Khuda Haafiz. The Salakaar season 1 is directed by Sunjoy Waddhwa and Comall Sunjoy Waddhwa.

Cast and Character Setup

What pulled me in was the main actor, Naveen Kasturia, playing the lead. I’ve seen his Aspirants and Made in Heaven, and he always feels so real on screen.

In the series, the story moves between two time periods, 1978 and 2025. Where Naveen Kasturia plays Adhir Dayal, a spy. He’s trying to stop Pakistan from making a nuclear bomb. Then there’s Mouni Roy. She plays Mariam, a spy in the present day.

Summary of the Cast and the Characters:

What Worked and What Didn’t?

The 1970s scenes looked great. The outfits, the lighting, and the vibe all felt true to the time. It gave off that classic spy movie feel with quiet meetings and hidden tension.

But some things felt a bit too smooth. Like spies entering enemy zones with no real trouble. I get it’s just a trailer, but I hope the full show adds more depth.

The music added real suspense. That low hum made it all feel intense and serious.

What are People’s Reactions to Salakaar?

Overall, Salakaar is getting mixed reactions. Some thought the concept was solid, but that the tale lacked depth. People commended the scenes and the acting and thought that they were breathtaking. The majority of the viewers mark it with 3 stars out of 5. It is not an ideal one, but it can be a one-time entertainment.

Final Thoughts: Worth a Look?

After watching the trailer, I checked online. A lot of people seemed excited. Many liked the short format. Only five episodes, around 30 minutes each. That is perfect for a quick weekend watch. Some did mention the story might have gaps, but the acting seems to be the strong point.

Salakaar is about quiet heroes who risk it all for the country. If you like spy stories or strong performances, it might catch your interest. I haven’t seen the full series yet, but the trailer left me curious. It feels like there’s more beneath the surface, and I want to find out.
