Supreme Court Halts Survey of Shahi Eidgah Mosque

According to sources, the Supreme Court has kept a hold on Allahabad High Court’s decision to appoint a commission for the Shahi Eidgah Mosque in connection to the Mathura’s Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Masjid dispute. Meanwhile, the bench of Justice Sanjiv and Dipankar Dtta called the appointment seeking the appointment of the local commissioner “vague.”

Meanwhile, at the same time, the bench was hearing a plea of the management committee, Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah, challenging the Allahabad High Court order.

You can’t file a vague application for appointment of court commissioner. It should be very specific on the purpose. You can’t leave everything to the court to look into it, the bench advised senior advocate Shyam Divan, who appeared for Hindu bodies, according to a report by PTI.

In addition, the top court also issued notice to the Hindu bodies asking for their answer while making clear that proceedings before the high court will continue.

On the contrary, talking about the dispute, Krishna Janmabhoomi- Shahi Idgah Masjid almost a decade ago dispute where petitioners claim that Shahi Idgah Mosque adjoining the Krisha Janmabhoomi temple holds signs that claim that the mosque was initially a temple.

On top of that, last year, on 14 December 2023, the Allahabad High Court approved the Hindu group to check out Shah Idgah Masjid in the Krishna Janmabhoomi Case. The decision came after someone asked the court to give back the 13.37 acres of land to Sah Idgah Mosque.

On the other hand, the mosque committee didn’t approve of this. While challenging the plea, they mentioned it shouldn’t be allowed because of a law passed in 1991, that restricts the change of nature of religious places.
