The Freelancer is an Indian Hindi-language thriller series. Created by Neeraj Pandey, the series is directed by Bhav Dhulia, who previously directed Khakee: The Bihar Chapter in 2022. Further, the series is produced by Shital Bhatia under the banner of Friday Storytellers. The Freelancer was released on Disney+ Hotstar on September 1, 2023. After enjoying the captivating storyline in the first season, fans have started wondering when The Freelancer season 2 is coming.
It revolves around the story of two Mumbai police officers, Inayat Khan and Avinash Kamath, who are expelled from the police force after Inayat slaps a politician. The politician forces these honest officers not to put any charges on his son while he commits crimes. Inayat and Avinash lose contact with each other.
Meanwhile, Avinash starts working as a military trainer. Inayat’s daughter, Aleeya, gets married to a man from Malaysia, namely Mohsin Fazal. He later insists that Aleeya cross the Syrian border and join ISIS, and forces her as she denies it. After losing touch with his daughter, Inayat gets worried and approaches the Mumbai police. There, he is insulted because of his removal from the force years ago. When he is left with no other option, Inayat stages a false security incident in front of foreign delegates. As a result, he is shot dead but becomes successful in catching Avinash’s attention.
When Avinash visits to pay condolences, he gets to know about Aleeya’s disappearance. Inayat’s wife, Sabeena, puts Avinash and Aleeya in touch as soon as she gets a call from her daughter.
Considering the loose threats that the first season ended with, it is highly likely to receive season 2 of The Freelancer. As of the time of writing this article, there is no official confirmation regarding the same. Numerous cliffhanger questions have made fans wait for The Freelancer season 2 release date, even though there is no information about its renewal or cancellation.
The first season of this thriller series was released in two parts. The first part, consisting of four episodes, premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on September 1, 2023. After a three-month-long wait, the second part of the series, consisting of three episodes, was dropped on September 15, 2023.
As of now, there is no information about the release date of season 2. However, rumours suggest that it could be released in mid-to-late 2024, possibly in September 2024.
As mentioned previously, there is no information about season 2 of The Freelancer. As a result, there has been no trailer for the series till now. Reports suggest that fans will not have to wait long to see the second installment of the series. Set in Syria, the first season was predominantly shot in Mumbai, Morocco, Europe, America, and the Middle East.
There has been no official cast announcement from the makers. However, we expect the actors from the first season to reprise their roles. Some of the key actors are Mohit Raina as Avinash Kamath, Anupam Kher as Dr. Arif Ajmaal Khan, and Kashmira Pardeshi as Aleeya Khan. Other roles include Ayesha Raza Mishra as Sabeena Khan, Manjari Fadnis as Avinash’s wife, Mrunal, and Sarah-Jane Dias as CIA Agent Radha Lampat Baxi.
Since the first season of the series dropped on Disney+ Hotstar, the second season will likely be launched on the same platform. With high expectations, all we can do for now is wait. It is important to note that The Freelancer’s creator has also directed special ops for Hotstar and will continue to create mind-blowing series for the VOD service.
Given these points, the release dates for The Freelancer season 2 are speculative, and there is no official confirmation from the series creators or Hotstar as of now. Those who have already started missing the beloved star cast can binge-watch the first season from here.
