Is TikTok Back in India? Government Responds Amid Buzz

Recently, some news has been circulating on the internet about the relaunch of TikTok after almost 5 years in India. But later, it was clarified by ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, that they have not restored the app in India and are following government rules.

What Did the Indian Government Say?

The Indian government has clearly said there is no order to lift the TikTok ban. Officials call rumors about TikTok’s return false and misleading. The Ministry of Electronics and IT confirmed that TikTok continues to be blocked in India.

Interestingly, AliExpress, another banned Chinese app, was found to be functional by some users at one point. At first, its website was openable, but soon, it stopped responding and kept redirecting users without fully loading. This shows that there are some glitches with the websites of the ByteDance company, which is confusing users in India.

Why Did TikTok Get Banned?

TikTok was banned in India in June 2020, along with 58 other Chinese apps. The reasons behind the ban of these apps were:

  • The government said these apps caused serious security and privacy risks.
  • They were seen as threats to India’s sovereignty and safety.
  • The ban followed violent border clashes with China in Ladakh, especially at Galwan Valley.

What About Other Banned Apps?

Some other Chinese apps like PUBG returned as BattleGrounds Mobile India (BGMI). Shein and Xender also re-entered the Indian market after meeting government rules. TikTok remains non-operational in India as it doesn’t comply with the rules and regulations of India. As TikTok is a platform that deals with user-created videos that directly connect with the general public, the government is especially attentive towards privacy and security.

Will TikTok Come Back Soon?

India and China are trying to improve ties in 2025 with talks about trade and investment. But, there is no such news related to the relaunching of the Chinese apps in India. Which means, for now, TikTok is officially banned with no sign of a comeback.

Final Verdict

TikTok is not back in India. The brief website access was a technical glitch, not a relaunch. Official government sources confirm no unblocking order has been issued. Other apps had a similar glitch, but it is still blocked.

If you are wondering how to access TikTok in India in 2025, the answer is simple: you can’t, at least not legally or officially.
