The doctors advised him to undergo surgery. His brother, Ghazipur MP Afzal Ansari, claimed that he was given poisonous substances in jail.

Afzal Ansari further stated that Mukhtar was given poison around 40 days ago as well, and recently, on March 19 and March 22, he was again poisoned, due to which his health was deteriorating.

Orders have been raised with the magisterial probe for the investigation of the death of Mukhtar Ansari after his family claimed that he was given poison in jail. The body of the gangster-turned politician will be given to the family for the rites after the postmortem. His funeral will take place in Kali Bagh Graveyard, Ghazipur.

Mukhtar Ansari had over 60 criminal cases pending against him. He was in Punjab prison for two years and later brought back to Banda jail in April 2021. Ansari was on the list of 66 gangsters issued by the Uttar Pradesh Police last year. He had been behind bars since September 2022 for committing crimes in eight cases before different courts in UP.
